Mineral salts play a fundamental role in all body functions and for this reason they must be taken daily ; potassium and magnesium are among the most requested minerals.
With humid heat, excessive sweating, lack of dietary intake and sports activity, the body expels a very high amount of salts but, fortunately, it clearly communicates it to us with the following deficiency symptoms: fatigue, confusion, muscle fatigue, nausea, muscle tremors, cramps, heavy and swollen legs.
Magnesium is linked to the production of energy together with calcium and phosphorus, of which it stimulates absorption and metabolism. Its functions within the body are innumerable and unfortunately taking it with food is increasingly difficult because:
- the subsoil is poorer and poorer, consequently so are the fruit, vegetables and water;
- cooking can reduce the magnesium content of foods by up to 75%;
- the loss of magnesium increases with the intake of diuretics, drugs (cyclosporine, anorectics), with the consumption of alcohol and coffee;
Potassium is the most common mineral both inside and outside the cell. It is important for maintaining blood pressure, regulates heart rhythm and neuromuscular excitability, balances acid-base balance, stimulates insulin production, promotes the expulsion of liquids and counteracts water retention.
