THE LACK OF IRON IN WOMEN

Usually women have lower iron levels than men. Especially during the menstrual cycle, in pregnancy and in the lactation period.

The daily amount of iron that should be taken is 18 mg for women of childbearing age and 30 mg for pregnant women.

The menstrual cycle is a normal event in a woman's life. It consists of regular cyclical modifications which last an average of 28 days and which involves, by the action of hormones, important modifications of some target structures that cause blood loss. The duration of the discharge can vary from three to seven days, as well as the amount of blood expelled can vary. Many women lose large amounts of iron due to high blood flow. To maintain optimal iron levels, it is necessary to prefer a diet rich in iron or to resort to the use of supplements. In order to facilitate the absorption of iron, it is always recommended to combine the intake of vitamin C.

During pregnancy , iron requirements increase due to the increase in erythropoiesis, the process of formation of red blood cells. In addition, the fetus needs iron to grow and develop, therefore it will draw on the mother's reserves. Among other things, the need for iron changes during pregnancy, increasing more in the last trimester. In addition to iron during pregnancy, folic acid is recommended, which contributes to the growth of maternal tissues. Vitamin B12 is also essential as it contributes to the normal formation of red blood cells by also intervening in the cell division process.

During lactation the mammary gland carries out an activity of control of the secretion of iron in milk, thus protecting the newborn from the deficiency or excess of this mineral. It may be useful to supplement its intake especially during prolonged breastfeeding periods, which continue after the sixth month as the menstrual cycle resumes.

Imunfer can be considered the ideal supplement to accompany women in all stages of life. In fact, it contains high-dose iron (30 mg), microencapsulated to favor its absorption and eliminate the typical metallic taste. It is also enriched with folic acid which is most useful during pregnancy but not only. The vitamin C contained within it facilitates its absorption and vitamins B6 and B12 are useful for counteracting tiredness and fatigue.
