THE PLANT
Hawthorn whose botanical name is Crataegus Oxyacantha is a perennial plant of the Rosaceae family. It is a not very tall shrub characterized by beautiful and fragrant white flowers. It grows spontaneously in temperate areas and in particular in Italy.
According to the Celtic calendar of trees, May 13 is celebrated the day of the hawthorn, a remedy against all negativity. The history of this plant is linked to beliefs and superstitions, it is thought that the thorns of Christ's crown were those of hawthorn. The Latins called it with the same name with which they indicated the Heart: Crategone , that is, crater of the human body from which the blood that circulates throughout the body originates.
Known as cordial plants for its support for the heart, it has a strong cardioprotective and antioxidant action.
PROPERTY
Its phytotherapeutic properties depend on its phytocomplex consisting of numerous active ingredients. It is rich in antioxidant polyphenols and flavonoids , with cardioprotective and cardiotonic action, which favor the dilation of the coronary arteries that carry blood to the heart, improving blood flow and thus contributing to the reduction of blood pressure.
It helps to reduce the accumulation of cholesterol in blood vessels, also thanks to its diuretic effects it helps fight water retention and is useful in case of muscle cramps.
The presence of vitexin and apigenin also attribute to hawthorn a spasmolytic, sedative and anxiolytic action, therefore its intake is very useful in case of hypertension, especially of nervous origin. This sedative action is particularly useful for reducing emotional excesses in very nervous people, to calm states of anxiety and agitation, to prevent panic attacks and in case of insomnia.
GEMMODERIVATED
The bud extract is a particular and low alcoholic extraction, it is useful for restoring the rhythm: heartbeat.
